Areas of Expertise
Eye Movement Desensitization (EMDR)
EMDR and BSP are both brain body based therapies that help individuals adaptively process distressing information, memories, and experiences. These "power" therapies work on a deeper level than traditional talk therapy. Through brain scan technology, we have gained insight into the difference between what happens when people talk about past trauma and what happens when their body re-experiences it. We have learned that talk therapy attempts to engage parts of the brain that are “off-line” and therefore, is unable to resolve the trauma when in a hyperdistressed state.
Averie is the only psychotherapist certified in both EMDR and BSP in Louisiana. She completed training and certification in EMDR and is a consultant in training, providing consultation to EMDR trained clinicians who are working towards certification. Averie is also trained and certified in BSP and has completed advanced training, including an intensive as well as Phases 3 and 4 with BSP creator, David Grand, PhD.
