Areas of Expertise
Eye Movement Desensitization (EMDR)
EMDR and BSP are brain-body therapies that facilitate adaptive processing of distressing information, memories, and experiences. These "power" therapies work on a deeper level than traditional talk therapy. Through brain scan technology, we are able to see the difference between what happens when people talk about past trauma and what happens when their body re-experiences it. While talk therapy attempts to engage parts of the brain that are “off-line” and unable to resolve trauma in a hyper-distressed state, EMDR and BSP access the midbrain, where trauma is stored.
Averie McCauley, MSW, LCSW-BACS, is the only psychotherapist certified in both EMDR and BSP in Louisiana. She is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and has completed advanced BSP training, including an intensive as well as Phases 3 and 4 with BSP creator, David Grand, PhD.
